DESCRIPTION
The 'Ghutni' or Knee-length shorts are made with Khadi raw silk and finished with vintage, hand-embroidered zardozi lace one in side.
The silhouette is structured and unexpected — a new shape, all while paying homage to the rich textile heritage of India.
Zardozi originated in Persia and was brought to India during the Mughal era. It was traditionally used to adorn royal garments, ceremonial textiles, and temple hangings.
Wearing zardozi was once a mark of nobility.

Words by Mihika] I remember my ancestral home in Rajasthan, a place rich with diverse tribal communities. I was so inspired by the village women who adorned themselves with rich textiles & artistic traditions.
The women would braid their hair using fabric scraps found around the house. This led to my exploration and fascination with turning scraps into something beautiful and meaningful.
This project first took form when my mother and I worked on a personal project - mending a pair of old jeans with scraps, leftover laces, patches from Indian wear - giving what feels like waste, a second life.
Each piece carries a story that is shaped by its journey. It has travelled through Indian markets, village workshops, artisanal homes, and our art studio - reflecting the soul of its origin.
Blending heritage textiles with vintage pieces allows me to create something fresh while keeping a connection to the past. It’s about evolving the materials, giving them new meaning.
